First Watch Review: Fresh Food Done Right

There are plenty of places to grab breakfast.

    There are diners.

    There are brunch spots.

    Then there’s First Watch.

I’d heard people talk about it for years, but until the new Lehigh Valley location opened, I never had the chance to try it. After one visit, I completely understand why this chain has built such a loyal following.

If I had to describe the experience in one word, it would be this:

    Fresh.

That’s what stood out more than anything else.

    First Impressions

First Watch has a different feel than your typical breakfast restaurant.

The atmosphere is bright, clean, and modern without feeling pretentious. Even though it had only recently opened and the restaurant was packed, everything felt organized and energetic rather than chaotic.

The staff was friendly, and while there was a wait, that’s to be expected when a highly anticipated restaurant opens its first location in the area.

    The Food

This is where First Watch really shines.

You can tell they care about the quality of their ingredients.

    The eggs actually taste fresh.

The breakfast potatoes have real flavor and texture instead of tasting like they came out of a freezer bag.

    The avocado was perfectly ripe.

Everything looked like it had just come out of the kitchen instead of sitting under a heat lamp.

    And that’s because it didn’t.

One of First Watch’s biggest differences is that they prepare meals to order using fresh ingredients, without heat lamps, microwaves, or deep fryers. Honestly, you can taste the difference.

    What We Ordered

Between our table, we sampled quite a variety.

The breakfast tacos were loaded with fresh ingredients and had great flavor.

The omelet was light, fluffy, and perfectly cooked.

The Belgian waffle was crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and exactly what you hope a good breakfast waffle will be.

The French toast was another winner.

    Nothing felt heavy or greasy.

    Everything simply tasted… fresh.

That’s not something I say very often about chain restaurants.

    The Prices

Considering the quality of the food, I thought the prices were more than fair.

Could you find a cheaper breakfast somewhere?

    Absolutely.

    Would it taste this good?

    Probably not.

For what you receive, I think First Watch offers excellent value.

The Pags on the Go Take

I’m always honest when I review restaurants.

If something isn’t good, I’ll tell you.

If something is outstanding, I’ll tell you that too.

    First Watch impressed me.

    Not because it reinvented breakfast.

Because it focused on doing the basics exceptionally well.

    Fresh ingredients.

    Quality food.

    Reasonable prices.

    Excellent presentation.

    That’s a combination that’s hard to beat.

Whether you’re visiting the new Lehigh Valley location or one of the hundreds of First Watch restaurants around the country, I think you’ll leave understanding why so many people recommend it.

    I’ll definitely be back.
